Fly fishing is more popular for trout and salmon. People go for fly fishing for many other species of fish like pike, bass, panfish, grayling and carp, as well as marine species, such as redfish, snook, tarpon, bonefish and striped bass. Some other species that people may go for are tuna, Dorado (mahi-mahi), sailfish, salmon and marlin. It actually depends on games available near anglers and water they choose for fly fishing. Fresh water fish for Fly Fishing

Fresh water bodies are the ones where salinity is less then 0.05%. Fish that spend all or major part of their life in such waters are called Fresh Water Fish. Close to 41% species of fish family live in fresh water. Salmon, trout and three-spined stickleback are examples of fresh water fish. You can use Fly Fishing techniques for these fish easily.

Tackle Sport fish, Barramundi, Trevally (GT or golden), Jack and Queen Fish are some other species of fish which are found in fresh water and are suitable for fly fishing.

Salt Water Fishing

Salt / sea water fishing is quite old tradition. People used fly fishing in sea prettying time back also. Mullet had been popular game. Pollack and bass also were popular in salt water fish pursued by anglers. In early 1940’s, fly used for fishing ranged from bonefish, snook flies etc. Salt water fly fishing requires anglers to buy heavy material rods. Bass rods are also popular. If you are new angler, go for heavy rods.
